村名因麻田村小组、书田村小组和新社村小组合在一起而来。[1]

新田于新中国成立后设行政村，1959年改称大队，1963年2月划归安墩公社；1984年称乡，1987年3月依惠东府函〔1987〕8号文设村委，1999年称新田村民委员会。[1]
