Help
Welcome. Any registered user can edit any article; once a reviewer approves an edit, it appears on the article. Here is what you need to know. Articles are written in Chinese.
Guidelines
- Neutral and factual. Describe a place's history, geography, population, economy, culture, sights and notable people in plain language, without promotion or judgement.
- Verifiable. Give sources for important facts - local gazetteers, government websites, newspapers, books - under "References".
- Respect copyright. Write in your own words; do not copy whole passages from other articles or websites. Cite any short quotation.
- Protect privacy. Do not publish private individuals' phone numbers, addresses, ID numbers or similar.
- No advertising. Articles are not for promotion: no contact details, prices or shop listings.
- Obey the law. Nothing illegal, obscene, infringing or abusive.
How to edit
- Sign in and press "Edit" at the top right of an article. Each section heading also has its own "edit" link, to change just that section.
- The summary is the opening paragraph or two; the body is organised in sections - use the toolbar's section and subsection buttons for headings, or pick a common section from the drop-down.
- The infobox takes area, population, postcode, dialect, local products and so on. Names, codes and the area a place belongs to come from the data and need no filling in.
- References are numbered; write [1], [2] in the text and they link to references 1 and 2.
- To link to another article, select some text, press the link button and paste that article's address (an /item/… or /area/… address on this site). Links to other websites open in a new window.
- Preview, add a one-line edit summary, and submit.
Review
Submitted edits wait in the review queue; "My edits" shows their status. An approved edit appears on the article; a declined one comes with the reviewer's reason. Before review you can keep changing your edit (a new submission replaces the waiting one) or withdraw it.
If someone else's edit was approved while you were editing, you will be asked to confirm your changes on top of the new version. When you edit a single section, your change is merged automatically as long as nobody else changed that section.
Surnames and placing villages
On an administrative or natural village's article you can add the surnames found there (from the list of surnames; one not on it can be requested), and place a natural village whose administrative village is not yet known under the right one. These changes take effect at once, are limited to 20 an hour, and are fully logged so administrators can undo mistakes or abuse.
