Xiangcun Baike ("the site") is an encyclopedia of places written by its users. Please note the following before reading or using its content.

For reference only

Articles are written by registered users and the site's editors and published after a reviewer approves them. Review catches obvious mistakes but cannot check every detail, so an article may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. The content is for reference only: do not make decisions on the strength of it alone, and do not use it for legal, administrative or other official purposes.

Place names, divisions and maps

Place names, administrative levels, division codes and which place belongs to which come from public data published by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the National Bureau of Statistics and others. Administrative divisions change from time to time and the site's data may lag behind; what governments and civil-affairs departments publish takes precedence.

Maps show roughly where a place is. They are not a basis for national or administrative boundaries and are not meant for navigation. The positions of natural villages come from OpenStreetMap and some are approximate; a place with no position of its own is shown at its parent area's.

References and outside links

The sources an article relies on are listed under "References" at its foot, and the numbers in the text show where each statement comes from. Sources include government websites, news reports and other encyclopedias. Articles here take facts from those sources and say them in their own words; they do not reproduce the sources' text. Links to other websites lead to content those sites are responsible for; the site cannot vouch for its accuracy or that the links keep working.

Surnames

A village's surnames were added by users or compiled from historical records. They mean only that someone recorded the surname living there; they do not prove a family's lineage or anyone's ancestral home.
