历史沿革[edit]
百度百科记村子始建于西晋建兴三年（315年），居民都是开基祖李耿的后人；博雅地名网把年号写作“建新”，并说建村已有1691年以上。[2][1]1949年设新田农会，随后经初级社、高级社，至1958年定为大队，1983年转为新田乡，1988年转为管理区，1998年12月管理区改制，设新田村委会。[1]
古村与荣誉[edit]
村域面积约4720亩。村中保存有明、清及民国初年的民居，百度百科列出的景点有爱敬堂、叙伦堂、古井和乌迳古道。[2]南雄市早在2006年就把它列为文物保护单位。此后2009年它进入「第二批广东省历史文化名镇名村」，2013年8月进入「第二批中国传统村落」名录，2026年3月又被认定为「广东省第三批百千万工程典型村镇」。[2][1]
新田之战[edit]
1934年10月中央红军进入广东，新田位于从江西入粤北的必经之路。当月26日天刚亮，红一军团的直属侦察连攻打天昊岭上的粤军，一般称为长征入粤第一仗。[3][4]此后村中多座祠堂成为红军的宿营地，一栋老屋墙上留有「焚烧田契借约」的标语。[3]村里正在建设长征入粤第一仗展示园和红军过粤北长征历史步道的南雄段。[3][4]
经济[edit]
全村耕地2970亩（博雅地名网），农民种黄烟、水稻、花生、辣椒，并外出务工。[1]
