Privacy policy
This page explains what Xiangcun Baike collects and how it is used.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, display name, and your password stored as a one-way hash (we cannot see the password itself).
- Edit records: each edit you submit, and each surname and village placement you add, with the time and your network address (an IPv4 address, or the first 64 bits of an IPv6 address), for review, abuse prevention and undoing harmful changes. Your display name and approved edits are public; your email and network address are not.
- Rate limits: to slow password guessing and mass registration we count attempts per network address, storing only a keyed hash, never the address itself.
- Cookies: one session cookie, to keep you signed in and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. No tracking or advertising cookies.
What we do not do
- Pages load no scripts, fonts or analytics from any other website; there is no third-party tracking. Map tiles are fetched from OpenStreetMap by this site's server and served from here, so your browser does not contact other sites.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
We email you only to confirm your registration and to reset your password, sent through Amazon SES.
Your choices
You can change your display name and password on the "My edits" page. To delete your account, contact the site's administrators. After deletion your published edits remain in article histories under the content license, without your display name.
