新村村在汕尾市城区红草镇埔边西面约6.5公里，边马公路南侧，2009年有1126人，旅居港澳的同胞多，有“侨乡”之称。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，相传九百年前有人从福建莆田迁来立村，取名新村，此后没有再改。新中国成立之初为长新乡，归红草区管；人民公社时期，成为红草公社的新村大队；1989年改设管理区，1999年成立村委会。[1]

经济[edit]

收入靠侨汇和农业，兼有鱼塭养殖；种果树是传统副业，所产杨桃有名。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2022年1月，省乡村振兴局把新村列入乡村治理示范村的创建名单（2021年度）；2024年1月，又被确定为广东省民主法治示范村（社区），属2023年度。[1]2024年与晨洲村一起被评为第四批广东省文化和旅游特色村。[2]
