红草社区在汕尾市城区红草镇，前身是青草圩，面海背山。2009年总人口5388人。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网，圩市始于北宋，旧称清初圩；清末一位姓白的知县因迷信海丰地形像牛，要给牛“添食”，把圩名改作青草圩。1927年底海陆丰建立苏维埃政权，圩名随之改成红草。[1]该地在第一次国内革命战争时期属老苏区。[1]
行政设置上，原属青草圩的这个村委会在1959年分作两个大队，两队1968年合并，称青草大队，1971年又划出青二大队，改称居民大队，后来设青草居委会；2002年起设红草居委会。[1]
经济[edit]
居民以商业、服务业和副业为生；沿长沙湾一带的养殖业发达，出产牡蛎、对虾、膏蟹，旧时出名的“青草蚶”（血蚶）也产在这里。[1]2009年时民居正由砖石瓦木的传统楼房转向钢筋混凝土结构。[1]
