成村之时，这里辖有鹅公龙和冷水坑两个自然村，各取一个末字，合称龙坑^[1]。

龙坑在建国初期是乡，1958年编为大队；1984年再称乡后，于1986年转为村民委员会，1989年管理区取而代之，直到1998年才又设回村民委员会，村名未变，所属的曲江县在2004年把它交给了仁化县^[1]^[2]。镇政府介绍周田镇的特产时，提到龙坑出产丹霞蓝莓^[2]。
