新兴街道位于广东省湛江市霞山区，是霞山区的12个街道之一，下辖新霞、录霞、方兴、文霞4个社区和新村、后坡2个行政村。“新兴”二字，分别取自辖区内的新村和方兴村。[1]2020年人口普查记录的人口约7.77万人，居霞山区各街道第二。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
据霞山区的区划记载，1996年霞山区所辖的6个街道和1个镇中已有新兴街道；2000年第五次人口普查时，新兴街道的人口为48176人。[2]此后霞山区的街道数目屡有变动，2002年为8个街道和1个镇，2005年末为11个街道，2009年末为12个街道，新兴街道在历次名单中均在其列。[2]本次所查资料没有说明新兴街道曾经合并或改名。
后坡村原属海头街道，2010年调整辖区时划入新兴街道。[1]
人口与区划[edit]
辖区约10.03平方公里，每平方公里约7747人。[1]辖区内的4个社区均属主城区：四个社区的来历各异，详见各社区条目：有的由新村居委会分出，有的借主干道绿塘路的谐音命名，有的源于安置水库移民的方兴村，有的由两个居委合并而成。[1]
文化[edit]
新兴街道凭南枝拳，列入2018年5月公布的“广东省民间文化艺术之乡”名单（有效期2018至2020年）。[1]
