新村在惠东县安墩镇，原名龙头村，因村后山势如龙、村落正处龙头而得名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，村周围山势似龙，村在龙头之处，原叫龙头村。清初洪氏的房屋失火烧毁，洪氏族人远走他乡，冯氏村民为图吉利，把村名改为新村。[1]

新村在1951年12月为第二十区的小乡，1957年底划入宝沥乡，1963年2月转属安墩公社；1987年3月设新村村委，1999年称新村村委会。[1]

荣誉[edit]

新村入选广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位（2018年度，2019年9月公布）。[1]
