莲塘村是广东省肇庆市鼎湖区莲花镇的行政村，在321国道旁，是全镇最大的村：8个自然村、33个村民小组，1791户、6565人，耕地约5600亩，村总面积7平方公里（博雅地名网所录村情，年份未注明）[1]。村始建于明代[1]；宋末元初，谢氏族人从蔗村迁此定居[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

谢氏族人宋末元初自蔗村迁来。1953年5月划入高要县第九区，设下莲塘乡；1958年并入广星人民公社三团，后隶属永安人民公社；1986年定名莲塘村；1988年3月划出高要，归鼎湖区；1993年4月改隶新设的莲花镇，1998年起设村民委员会[2]。

名称由来[edit]

据博雅地名网，村址地势低洼，四周土丘和池塘错落，形似莲藕生在塘中，因此取名“莲塘”[1]。

经济[edit]

村委会收入以市场租金为主，年收入约135万元；各村民小组耕作水田1300亩、养鱼塘4300亩并养猪，年收入545万元，人均5989.1元。村“两委”班子成员8人，党员111人、预备党员3人[1]。

著名人物[edit]

谢桂荣（1901年2月生）和谢春荣（1894年生）均出生于莲塘村。谢桂荣1923年在广州参加革命并加入中国共产党，入黄埔军校第四期；谢春荣1922年参加革命，入孙中山直属的铁甲车队，后转入黄埔军校第二期宪兵班，1927年在广州东校场遇害，终年33岁，葬于广州起义烈士陵园[1]。
