莲塘村是天堂镇下辖的行政村。村中原有多口相连的水塘，又有一片较大的芦苇塘，人们在其中种植莲藕，村名由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1515年（明正德十年），倪氏始祖佛伦公由闽粤西部来此定居，村中最早的聚落由此而成。1950年，此地设莲塘农会，属新兴县第五区内洞乡；1958年并入东风公社，设莲塘大队；1963年归天堂公社。1983年改设莲塘乡，1989年设管理区，1999年以村民委员会的建制运作。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，莲塘村列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。2026年1月，莲塘村被选为第二批「百千万工程」典型村。[1]
