大坪镇在广东省梅州市梅县区西北部，距梅州城区约25公里，下辖1个圩镇社区和12个行政村。清代为大坪堡，1987年改称镇。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

清代，这一带属大平堡。1931年起堡制改为区、乡制，大坪归第五区的一部分，1941年改隶第二区。建国之初隶梅西区；1956年立大坪乡，两年后并入新建的梅西人民公社，到1960年再单独成立大坪人民公社。1983年公社改区，1987年区改为镇。[1]

地理环境[edit]

全镇面积79.13平方千米，下辖12个村民委员会和1个圩镇社区居民委员会，村民小组合计161个，该页载总人口为18750人，未注明年份。据该页，镇内已探明的资源有石灰石（约2亿吨，其中1亿吨可采）、煤炭、温泉（最高42摄氏度）和民用石材。206国道穿镇而过，另有一条县道贯通全境，村村通了水泥路。[2]

第七次全国人口普查（2021年6月公布）显示，大坪镇人口为8600人，在梅县区各街道乡镇中居第19位。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2020年2月，大坪镇获评「2019年度广东省卫生镇」。[1]秀湖村、汤湖村于2017年10月列入「第一批广东省卫生村」；坪畲村（茶叶）和雷甘村（小龙虾）于2021年9月列入「第二批广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村」。[3][4][5][6]

地名由来[edit]

旧时圩镇上有一家石灰厂，厂前长着一棵大榕树，树下地面平坦宽阔，镇名由此而来。[1]
