上村是汕头市澄海区莲下镇中部的行政村，博雅地名网记作上村村。明清时与下村合称潮港，1882年以村中灰窑头溪支流为界分成两村，此处在上游，称潮港上乡。[1][2]2002年汕头市在这里示范推广水稻机械插秧。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

潮港之名，来自涨潮时海水可由蓬子港直入灰窑头溪、在此形成港湾。1882年一分为二，上游一侧称潮港上乡；1952年改称上村；1984年上村、下村一度合称潮港乡，1987年后各自设村。[1][2]

人口姓氏[edit]

村域0.74平方千米，耕地665亩，西邻建阳，东接北湾。2009年底548户2480人，有陈、黄、林、蔡4姓，陈为主姓，来自福建莆田和隆都镇前美村。[2]

经济[edit]

村民原以种稻为主。1994年村里率先试用塑料软盘育秧和抛秧，次年在粤东做工厂化育秧试验；2002年汕头市选在这里示范水稻机械插秧。[2]

村里向来制土纸，1974年办起造纸厂，1991年辟上村工业区；截至2008年底有企业94家，涉及造纸、印刷包装、南金和精细化工。[2]

文化教育[edit]

1922年乡人林开先办私塾；1969年建上村学校，1995年重建，占地8.5亩。[2]
