南坑村座北朝南，村前有一条小坑，故得名「南坑」。[1]

村境基岩多为侏罗系火山岩与震旦系变质岩，沟谷切割强烈，土壤以黄壤、黄红壤为主，植被繁茂，森林资源较为丰富。[2]

村中山林面积大，木材蓄积量多，出产锥栗、板栗、杨梅等。[2]

2024年7月，南坑村列入三明市六无达标村（2023年度）名录，同月列入三明市六无达标村（2021至2023年度）名录。[1]
