历史沿革[edit]
宝口在1950年冬隶属惠阳县第二十一区。其后几经分合：宝溪公社设于1958年，五年后并入高潭公社；宝口公社则是1977年从高潭公社划出另设的[2]。区一级机构出现在1983年，1986年冬改为乡，到1990年升格为镇[2]。
邻近的马山曾自成一镇：马山村1977年设公社，1993年属马山镇；2005年12月马山镇并入宝口镇[4]。博雅地名网的镇页写作2006年4月两镇合并，与各村页的2005年12月不同[2][4]。
镇名取自宝溪河出口一带的旧称「宝溪口」，后简称宝口[2]。

百度百科记宝口镇面积329.25平方千米[1]；博雅地名网另载约146.8平方千米，应是两镇合并之前的数字[2]。
人口民族[edit]
户籍人口方面，2018年为26792人[1]。维基百科载总人口7565人，未注明年份[3]。
经济[edit]
据百度百科，2018年全镇国内生产总值为5.9亿元（增长5.2%），固定资产投资总额7735万元[1]。农业以稻谷、番薯为主，经济作物有蔬菜、花生，水果有板栗、柑桔、李、青梅和香蕉，产地集中在塘南、大围、新化、佐坑、五一等村[3]。工业以水电为主，另有针织加工、酿酒、家具制造、榨油和碾米等小型工厂，已并网发电的电站共26座[3]。马山村在2022年被广东省农业农村厅认定为「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村，产品是茶叶[2]。宝口镇在2020年、2021年和2022年连续列入淘宝镇名单[2]。
名胜古迹[edit]
镇内留存10处与革命史有关的遗址旧址和纪念性建筑，时间从农民运动兴起的早期一直到解放战争，内容包括军队建设和土地革命[1]。其中有黄伯梅故居，马山和宝口两座革命烈士纪念碑，肖伦副团长牺牲地、三家村战斗旧址，惠紫人民自卫大队的军械维修厂旧址，禾多乡农会旧址，龙坪交通联络站旧址，以及解放区党校所在的「崇吉楼」和合水坝「南泥湾民运工作队」旧址[1]。
荣誉[edit]
广东省乡村振兴局于2022年1月确定宝口镇为「2021年广东省乡村治理示范乡镇」创建单位；2026年3月，宝口镇被认定为广东省第三批「百千万工程」典型村镇[2]。
