地名由来[edit]

新中国成立初期，《东方红》歌曲流传，地位近于国歌；该社区位于水口圩东郊，故以此命名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代归古博都，民国时期属第十区泮村乡，新中国成立后属八区。1961年起成为水口公社的东方红大队，次年与后溪大队合并，1967年又并入红花大队，1971年起三者重新分开。1984年成立东方红乡人民政府，1986年属水口镇并称东方红社区，1989年称东方红管理区，1993年起属开平市水口镇。[1]
