塘边村位于礼泉半岛西南部，距东庄镇政府约5公里，一面临海。村落临近一口大池塘，村名由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年8月，此地归五区（笏石区）管辖，设塘边保；同年9月改设塘边乡。1952年归二十区（下塘）的栖梧乡，1955年又改归忠门区栖梧乡。1957年隶属东庄乡的栖塘乡。1958年成为忠门公社塘边大队，1965年归东庄公社。[1]

1984年，大队转为村，归莆田县东庄乡。1988年划入秀屿镇，2000年归东庄镇，2002年划归秀屿区。[1]

经济[edit]

村民多从事商业、种植和水产养殖。不少人在外经商，以经营医药为主，主要分布于上海、北京和江苏等地。[2]
