东风社区位于沙太公路与广济河南侧，历史上属南栅，七十年代中期由几个小村组合为大队，取名东风。附近的广济墟，清代曾设有缺口司衙署。[3]

流动人口有2万多，户籍人口则为2016人（2024年）。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1985年，虎门与太平两镇合为虎门镇，东风自南栅乡独立出来，成为东风管理区。2005年由村转社区，正式定名为东风社区居委会。[2]

村落与墟市[edit]

七十年代中期，东北、西泮、王家、新墟等小村落组合为一个大队，取名「东风」。其中东北村最大，族人姓陈；西泮村族居梁姓，王家村是南栅王氏的族裔。[3]

东风诸村原是河畔岛屿，沙埔一带有南北朝陶片出土。新墟原称广济墟，处广济河边，是虎门内陆的主要水道。嘉庆年间，缺口司衙署移建于此，商铺渐多。道光后期又设虎门同知府署。[3]

清末，太平墟兴起，此地商铺开始迁出。二十年代军阀混战时墟场曾遭火劫，日军占领虎门后又受重创，墟市一度散去。新中国成立初期，渔户曾集于河口暂泊，之后大多迁居新湾。[3]
