大屋村位于东石圩西南约2公里，是平远县东石镇的行政村，辖8个村民小组，登记459户、1590人，总面积7.86平方公里，耕地约2280亩。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村子原称坳上，坳上与大屋指同一地方。明末黄姓人迁来定居，所建老祖屋规模大、住户多，称“坳上大屋下”，大屋之名由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年设大屋乡，1958年人民公社体制下设大屋大队，1983年改称小乡，1987年成立村民委员会，1989年改设管理区，1999年重设村民委员会。[1]

经济[edit]

村里种水稻、花生、玉米、黄豆，每年以公司加农户方式种甜玉米50多亩、花生200多亩，3公里村道已硬化。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

黄梅兴故居在村中街尾，1927年建成，坐西北向东南，面阔11.1米、进深17.1米，占地296.03平方米，泥砖墙、杉木瓦面，是6间2厅2舍1天井的客家“合面杠”建筑。黄梅兴旧居另于2017年3月24日被梅州市人民政府列入第五批市级文物保护单位。[2]

著名人物[edit]

黄梅兴（1897年—1937年），字敬中，坳上村人，黄埔军校第一期毕业，参加过东征和北伐。1937年淞沪会战中，他以第88师第264旅旅长身份，于8月14日在上海八字桥一带被炮弹击中殉国，被追授陆军中将，安葬于南京雨花台。[3]
