东山街道是广东省茂名市化州市下辖的街道，在化州市区东部，濒临鉴江，辖4个社区和6个行政村，是化州市区的组成部分，化州火车站即设于境内。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

民国二十一年（1932年），这一带设有东关、交心、博龙、塘尾等乡，隶属化县第一区。新政权建立后的1949年底到1950年初，先是化县东区，随后是化县一区，区政府设在东山大屋。[3]

1958年9月办起环城人民公社；1961年9月公社改为环城区，下分5个公社，今东山街道的地域属其中的城东公社。1963年1月区撤销，仍办环城人民公社，管24个生产大队；此后1981年改叫城郊人民公社，1983年10月又改为城郊区。[3]

1987年2月城郊区改为东山镇，镇政府在橘城中路的东山岭。1994年3月起，北京路以西、鉴江以东的城区部分称东山街道。[3] 据博雅地名网，街道得名于东山岭，这是化州城东一座略高的山，原有东山村，街道的辖区又大致沿袭原东山镇。[1]

地理与交通[edit]

街道总面积43平方公里。[1][2] 穿过境内的有迎宾大道、省道285线、化梅公路和河茂铁路；街道设有火车站的货运和客运站，以及长途、短途汽车站。后来橘州大桥和东山大道建成，道路网更完整。[2]

化州站在街道境内，位于站前路，属河茂铁路的中间站，1958年动工，1959年2月通车。百度百科记其2016年年客运量20.897万人次，维基百科称它是化州市唯一的铁路客运站。[4][5]

经济[edit]

据街道概况，东山街道以工业见长，曾获茂名市「工业卫星镇」称号。概况点名的企业有海利集团公司、威顿实业总公司、水轮机厂和神州水泥厂，产品门类包括不锈钢与铝材、建材和五金、水泥、化肥、橘红制品，以及机械制造和塑料。街道内登记的工商企业有2200多家，其中25家达到规模以上；还有蔬菜、药材、陶瓷、摩托车几类专业市场。该概况称街道是化州的经济商贸中心，财税收入超过1亿元，居化州市首位（概况未注明年份）。[2]

文化与教育[edit]

街道概况说，境内保存着石马岭的洪豫墓和天主教堂原址，都列为市级文物保护单位。教育方面，该概况记有公办中小学16所，其中化六中、化三小是省一级学校。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

南津三柏李氏宗祠在东堤南路，是清代的古建筑，被公布为化州市第四批县级文物保护单位。[1]

人口与区划[edit]

街道概况称总人口7.3万人（未注明年份）。[2] 下辖的上街、站前、下街、劳村4个社区，以及上坡、儒教位、博龙、江岸、博金、塘尾6个行政村，各村社的在册人口、户数多由村社自己填报，见各自条目。[1]
