射塘村是东岸镇下辖的行政村。据说古时村里有口大鱼塘，一条墨蛇在塘中游动，把塘水染得墨黑，起名蛇塘，因“蛇”与“射”谐音，写作射塘。[1]

射塘大队1961年从甘汁大队分出；1963年一度分为射塘、岐坑两个大队，当年年底又合并。1983年起称乡，1986年起为农村管理区，1999年起设村民委员会。2019年9月被列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」。[1]
