才口村是东岸镇下辖的行政村。博雅地名网载，此处古时叫寨口，近代叫柴口，因山高林密，邻县信宜的村民烧的柴多由这里供给；又说明清时期这里的人打官司十有八九能赢，所以定名才口。[1]
公社时期，才口管理区下辖横山、才口、竹朗、大村、石古垌、石陂等大队；其后横山、木坑、山心、才口、大垌等合并成才口大队，并一度作为独立公社存在，至1963年划回东岸公社，由才口和大垌两队合成现在的才口大队。乡、农村管理区、村民委员会的名称依次出现于1983年、1986年和1999年。[1]
2021年12月获评「2021年广东省卫生村」；2019年9月被列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」。[1]
