平坑村是东岸镇下辖的行政村，当地溪河多，青山绿水，村名由此而来。[1]
平坑大队由运坑、平石、湴头三个大队合并而成，时间在1961年的体制下放之后。乡、农村管理区、村民委员会的名称依次出现于1983年、1986年和1999年。[1]
2019年10月入选「2019年广东省卫生村」名录；2019年9月被列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」；2026年3月，平坑村被认定为「广东省第三批百千万工程典型村镇」。[1]
