石古垌村是东岸镇下辖的行政村。据说村旁有一块大石头，行人走过时脚下咚咚作响，村名由此而来。[1]
建制上，石古垌、大垌、大村、良岭曾在1959至1960年合为一个大队，随后拆开，至1963年石古垌与大垌再合，仍叫石古垌大队。此前它隶属东岸公社的才口管理区。乡、农村管理区、村民委员会的名称依次出现于1983年、1986年和1999年。[1]
2021年12月，村获广东省爱卫会授予「2021年广东省卫生村」称号；2019年9月被列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」。[1]
