横山村是东岸镇下辖的行政村，村子坐落在一道自北向南横向延伸的山体旁，因而得名。[1]
横山原属才口管理区的才口大队；拆为横山、山心、木坑三队后，1963年又归并成横山一个大队。乡、农村管理区、村民委员会的名称依次出现于1983年、1986年和1999年。[1]
2019年10月入选「2019年广东省卫生村」名录；2019年9月被列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」。[1]
