方垌村是东岸镇下辖的行政村，村里有一片又长又方正的大垌，村名由此而来。[1]

1961年从甘汁大队分出方垌、大村两个大队，1963年大村并入方垌，称方垌大队。1983年起称乡，1986年起为农村管理区，1999年起设村民委员会。2021年12月获评「2021年广东省卫生村」；2023年4月被列入「2022年广东省乡村治理示范村创建单位」。[1]
