大潮社区在东岸镇境内，属镇乡结合区，名称来自镇上的大潮村。这里早年是独立的建制：1958年设大潮公社，1983年改为大潮区，1986年11月28日设大潮镇，1994年11月10日成立大潮镇居民委员会。[1]
它早先自成一镇：公社设于1958年，改区在1983年，同年11月28日定为镇，1994年11月10日成立镇居委会。2003年9月5日大潮镇撤销，并入东岸镇，居委会随之更名为社区居委会。[1]
2003年9月5日，大潮镇撤销，行政区划并入东岸镇，居民委员会改称大潮社区居民委员会，沿用至今；2019年9月，社区被列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」。[1]
