美南社区在陈店镇境内，明洪武元年（1368年或1369年）立寨，初名草尾，后改称美南。[1]全社区姓蔡，830户、4527人，面积0.845平方千米。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

这里靠近练江，地势低洼，水草丛生，旧称“草尾”；寨中溪水把村分成南北两半，位于溪南的一半先称溪南，后雅称美南。[1]两处记载把立寨年份写作1368年和1369年。[1]1958年公社化后属陇美大队，1975年改溪南大队，1981年定名美南大队，1983年起称美南乡，1986年起改居委会，1992年起称管理区，1999年又恢复居委会。[1]

经济与社会[edit]

耕地738亩，种水稻、甘薯；改革开放后以文胸内衣生产为主，是周边知名的文胸专业村，建筑企业共5家，小作坊计171家。[1]1993年新建学校，并建有老人活动中心。[1]
