历史沿革[edit]
明正德初年（约1506年），李姓从福建莆田迁到当时属饶平县苏湾都的这一带建村。乾隆中期「八街」兴起，樟林与塘西连成一片，塘西成为樟林埠「六社」之一。[3] 1950年塘西、新兴街、月窟合为新光乡，1962年从新光大队析出，复名塘西。1998年9月设塘西村。[3]
人口与经济[edit]
村情介绍称，全村1718户、6172人，土地3276.70亩，耕地2104.40亩（经济数字为2007年）。村民以陈、林、张、丁、郑等30多个姓氏为主，种植水稻和林檎1400多亩，另有约100亩的工业区，做橡胶、塑料、摩托车配件。[2] 塘西是侨乡，据1980年前后的统计，侨居东南亚的有8000多人，约占全镇旅外华侨的12%。[2] 村里还存有陈卓凡1945年题的「樟林乡塘西社」碑刻。[2]
塘西在2020至2022年的淘宝村名单中均有名。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
西塘：洋船主林泮在嘉庆四年（1799年）动工建园，称林泮别墅，十年后（1805年）这处产业因案充公。到光绪年间，洪植臣买下并仿苏州园林扩建，1895年落成，易名洪源记花园。园子不大，约1000平方米，包括居宅、庭园和书斋三部分，有假山、池塘和塔亭；园内地面用红黑雨花石拼成「双凤朝牡丹」。此后在2012年成为澄海区的不可移动文物，2019年4月又升为省级文物保护单位。[4]
