历史沿革[edit]
村名有两种来由。一说因河口的堤围每逢洪水首当其冲而得名；另一说引陈汰余《樟林乡土志略》，这里本是林泮的田围，在清代因案被官府没收，潮语「头充」与「头冲」同音，后来写作头冲。[1][2] 光绪三十三年（1907年），樟林郑氏的田园被水冲毁，遂在此筑堤并建村守水，改称樟南乡；1950年与观一、南社合编为观平乡，1961年观平拆开，复称头冲。1998年9月设头冲村。[2][3]
经济与寺庙[edit]
村情介绍称，全村401户、1630人，土地1361.90亩，耕地645.80亩（经济数字为2007年），村民以郑姓为主。[2] 村西南原有古寺水仙庵，相传建于宋明年间，1983年填头冲河时被平整，1991年由僧人定根法师发动海内外僧侣和信徒在原址重建，1994年开光。[2]
