塘口镇是广东省阳江市阳西县下辖的镇，位于县境西北部，镇政府距县城约9.5公里。全镇面积约230平方公里，辖一个社区和十五个行政村，是以山区农业为主的镇。[1][2]

镇内有大垌山净业寺、塘口古堡和横山泰安堡等名胜，热水村与周南村各有温泉。[6][7][10]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时期，这一带分属归善乡虔儒都下的两个图。新中国成立后归阳江县第六区管辖，1953年至1956年称塘口区，随后改为塘口乡。1958年塘口乡并入大跃进人民公社，当年年底改隶织篢公社；次年10月重新单独设立塘口公社。[3]

1961年划分小公社时，东水与旧仓两个大队划给新坪公社，平西与平北划给程村公社，其余大队分属塘口、横山两个公社，两社于1963年2月重新合为塘口公社。1983年改设为区，名为塘口区；1987年区又改为镇，名为塘口镇。1988年阳西设县，本镇随之称阳西县塘口镇。[3][4]

地理环境[edit]

全镇属山区，宜果坡地约4.7万亩，以农业为主。镇政府位于阳西西北部，东面与程村镇相邻，南面连接织篢镇，北面与阳春市河口镇接壤。[1][2]

塘口河流经镇域，两岸曾建有防御盗匪的城堡群。镇内水力资源较丰富，有热水、周南两处温泉。[2][7]

据博雅地名网概况，2003年全镇农业总产值为1.5221亿元，农民人均纯收入3198元。当年粮食播种面积5.65万亩，产粮16883吨；蔬菜种植1.73万亩；水果面积2.75万亩，以荔枝、龙眼、柑桔、橙与芒果为主。[2]

养殖方面，同年全镇生猪饲养量3.64万头，林果三鸟饲养量达48万只。镇里在周南、马山两村推行「养猪村」，并在横山、平北、竹迳等村推广鱼塘立体养殖。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

大垌山净业寺位于大垌山上，博雅地名网将其列为本镇名胜，并称距阳西县城五公里；快懂百科则写作距县城西面四公里。寺院原称静业庵，清康熙十六年的一次大修之后才定名净业寺；清乾隆与道光年间两次重修，民国二十年由阳江县长李伯振组织修缮。寺院在「文革」期间受损，1988年阳西建县后重建。[8][6]

2000年，妙空法师捐赠两千多尊缅甸玉佛，其中的缅甸玉卧佛被称为亚洲第一，身长7米、高2.5米，重27吨。寺院又被称为玉佛城或万佛城。赵朴初与关山月都曾为寺院题字。[8][6]

塘口古堡是清代修建的一组城堡。清末盗匪为患，塘口各姓宗族先后建起周安、永安、泰安、定安、镇安等堡，据快懂百科，五堡合占地三万余平方米。快懂百科称现存较完整的只有泰安堡，博雅地名网则称至2000年，这些堡与松竹书室仍较为完好。[7][9]

横山村的泰安堡始建于1807年，由刘振槐筹款兴建，现占地约6139平方米，墙厚约1米，高约6米。堡内设有横山学校，是中共横山小学党支部旧址，并建有阳江横山红色展馆。博雅地名网一页称其为广东省文物保护单位，另一页写作2002年被评为县级文物保护单位，两说并存。[10][9]

地名由来[edit]

塘口一名据称来自建堡时取土挖成大塘。热水村得名于村西侧的热水温泉。[5][2]
