东山街道位于广东省湛江市东海岛中部，行政区划上隶属麻章区，实际由湛江经济技术开发区管理，开发区的政府驻地就在这里。辖区面积约96.3平方千米，第七次全国人口普查时人口为5.7万人，在开发区各街道、乡镇中居首位。[1][10]

东山一带在1952年设过雷东县，县治在此；1992年东海岛经济开发试验区设立，管委会也驻东山。街道下辖1个社区、13个行政村，国家级非物质文化遗产「湛江人龙舞」流传于辖区内的东山圩村。[2][1][3][4]

历史沿革[edit]

地方沿革资料（博雅地名网转录）追溯到元代：至元年间（1271—1294年）遂溪县在东海岛设盐课司，派大使主管；清雍正元年（1723年）遂溪县在此置椹川巡检司；嘉庆年间（1796—1820年）又有白鸽寨水师营。[2]

20世纪50年代起建制变动频繁。1950年初东山称东山乡，隶东硇特别区；1952年12月成立雷东县，县治设在东山，东山属全县第一区；1957年撤区建乡，东山乡只存续到当年10月；1958年10月雷东县并入湛江市郊区，东山与东简、民安合为东海公社，次年8月三地各自成社。[2]

1961年6月，东海区下辖东山、民安、新安、东简、东南5个公社，其中东山公社管18个大队；1963年2月合并为东山、民安、东简3个公社。1983年6月公社制取消，东山公社改称东山区公所，所辖大队改为7个乡；1987年3月区公所撤销，东山改设镇。[2]

1992年7月，广东省政府批准设立东海岛经济开发试验区，管委会驻东山镇。2010年4月试验区并入湛江经济技术开发区，开发区政府的驻地在东山街道，由开发区管委会代管麻章区的东简、东山、民安3个街道和硇洲镇。[1][6][10]

东山镇改设街道的时间，所查资料没有记载。同在东海岛上的东简镇，据百度百科所述，是2011年末撤镇改设街道办事处的。广东省民政厅公布的2024年度行政区划中，麻章区辖东简、东山、民安3个街道和麻章、硇洲、湖光、太平4个镇。[7][8]

街道以东山社区为驻地，社区得名于早年的东山居民组。除社区外，下辖调青、龙头、东坡、调伦、什足、调石、北山、文参、调文、龙池、昌逻、调山、东头山13个行政村。[1]

多数村由新中国成立初期的乡并合而来，名称常取原来几个村名的各一字：调青由调东、调屋、青蓝仔三村并成，龙头由龙安、龟头两村合名，调文由调那和文参合名，昌逻因辖有什二昌、调逻两个自然村而得名。[1]

经济[edit]

博雅地名网所录的概况写的是东山镇时期的情形：种植以稻谷、甘蔗、花生、番薯和瓜菜为主，渔业兼有捕捞与养殖，养殖以虾池规模最大；镇办企业包括糖厂、砖厂和外贸羽绒厂，另有餐饮和金融业。[1]

文化[edit]

东山圩村的人龙舞是辖区内最负盛名的民间艺术，项目名称为「龙舞（湛江人龙舞）」，列入2006年公布的第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录，保护单位是湛江人龙舞艺术团。表演者由几十到数百名青壮年与少年组成，以身体相连摆成长龙，套路有起龙、龙点头、龙穿云、龙卷浪等。[3][4]

艺人口传，此舞出自明末：明军兵败后退入雷州半岛和东海岛，适逢中秋，百姓编舞以振作军心；到清乾隆、嘉庆年间最盛。中国非物质文化遗产网同时指出，后来它渐趋衰落，亟待抢救整理。百度百科还提到，雍正年间东山水师营设有武秀才考场，每逢中秋，会有两支人龙队伍互相较量。[3][4]

名胜古迹[edit]

辖区内立有东海革命烈士纪念碑。[1]另外，贯通全岛的东海岛堵海大堤全长6820米，1958年9月动工，1961年2月完工；2010年东海岛大桥通车以前，它是岛上通往大陆的唯一陆上通道。这条大堤属于整座东海岛，并不专属东山街道。[5][9]
