石塘村在明城镇。博雅地名网记其得名之由：村旁石山下有一座形似鼓的土丘，称“石人打鼓”，村建在土丘边的水塘旁，故名石塘[1]。

2023年4月，石塘村列入「2022年广东省乡村治理示范村」创建单位名单；2023年11月入选「广东‘百千万工程’首批典型县镇村」；2024年4月入选「广东省第一批乡村振兴示范村」创建名单[1]。
