东社村是汕头市澄海区溪南镇的行政村，原是南砂乡的一部分，1961年南砂乡拆分为东、西、南、北四社，因地处乡的东部而得名。[1][2] 南砂乡又称义积寨，据传早在南宋建炎三年（1129年）就有先民落脚，2016年认定为广东省古村落。[3]

村在东里大桥下游约800米，是革命老区村。[5]

历史沿革[edit]

南砂乡最初隶海阳县苏湾都，成化十三年（1477年）改隶饶平县，到嘉靖四十二年（1563年）澄海置县时才改隶澄海县。[2] 据清嘉庆《林氏族谱》，南砂乡创自宋元符年间；百度百科则称元末明初为防盗寇筑土寨，名义积寨，后改南砂寨。[2][3] 1921年废都设区后立南砂乡；1946年与南畔洲、明德里、仙市并成一个南砂乡；1950年6月，南砂连同明德等乡改称新联乡，1951年11月新联乡撤销，南砂乡恢复。[2]

南砂乡有20余个姓氏，林、陈、张、叶、郑等姓人口较多，有华侨捐资兴学的传统，农历正月十九有「游灯」的习俗。[3] 乡里的承启园是东、西、南、北四社共有的农村文史馆，在南社村花园巷，2002年元旦建成开放，馆内分南砂历史、革命传统、历代乡贤三区，2009年成为澄海区的爱国主义教育基地。[3][4]

人口与经济[edit]

博雅地名网所录村情写作3501人、978户，耕地1221亩，设12个村民小组；2009年全村的工农业总产值为2.215亿元，村集体收入246万元。[5] 村委会获过「全国农村集体财务管理规范化示范单位」「广东省民主法治示范村」「广东省卫生村」等称号，同时是汕头市唯一入选省生态文明康居工程试点的村。[5]
