义英社区在汕头市潮南区峡山街道，位于祥符塔所在山的正北面，原名厚英村，相传南宋嘉泰年间因村民翁氏赈灾义举，朝廷赐名“义英”。2026年1月获评「广东省第二批百千万工程典型村」。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

据博雅地名网，南宋隆兴二年（1164年），翁胜保迁入新兴乡的田心村。1178年（淳熙五年）村里造了一座石桥，取名厚英桥，行人便用桥名称呼这个村，田心村也就改名厚英村。嘉泰三年（1201年）潮汕闹饥荒，翁氏家族出稻谷两千石赈济，事后朝廷表彰，御赐村名义英，沿用至今。百度百科记迁入年份为隆兴二年，建桥为淳熙五年，赐名为嘉泰元年，与此略有出入。[1][3]

现状[edit]

社区1869户、10462人，辖区4157.32亩，耕地890亩。2003年起，街道在辖区内规划建设工业园义英片区；2009年有大小企业两百多家，做服装、针织、塑料和电脑绣花。[1]

辖区里有四十多座清末兴建的祠堂，包括大宗祠，采用驷马拖车、三厅二天井等潮汕传统样式。[1]
