新兴社区在汕头市龙湖区龙祥街道，曾处于原汕头市区的最东侧，靠近城乡接合部，前身是新乡村[1]。

名称与沿革[edit]

当地原称“新乡”，取其谐音改为“新兴”，寄托兴旺之意[1]。沿革与官埭一带相同：元末明初属揭阳县蓬洲都，1563年起属澄海县，1959年起属官埭、下蓬公社的官一大队，1996年10月设新兴居委会，归龙祥街道[3]。

人口经济[edit]

社区面积约12公顷，据概况有212户、962人，党员30名[2]。曾获汕头市绿化委员会授予的“园林式单位”称号，以及龙湖区的“人口与计划生育先进单位”“平安和谐示范社区”称号[2]。

设施[edit]

社区先后投入205万元建设：360多平方米的老年人活动中心，约1.1公里水泥路及下水道，路灯125盏，垃圾临时堆放点11个；又把社区中心的废弃污水池改为园林式广场[2]。
