村名来自合作化时期的红光高级社，行政村沿用该名。村属革命老区。[1]

合作化时期，村中成立红光高级社，行政村沿用其名。1999年改称红光村委会，此名沿用至今。[1]

经济与荣誉[edit]

山地12313亩，耕地763亩。农业以水稻、甘薯为主，出产橄榄、荔枝、青梅。村内有水电站1座，小学1所，敬老院1个。有简易公路通往镇区。[1]

2020年8月，村被广东省农业农村厅列入首批「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单（甜油甘）。[1]
