大坪镇位于连南瑶族自治县西北部，属清远市管辖，距县城约24公里。全镇以农林业为主，居民多为瑶族。[1]

镇内共五个行政村，由大古坳村、大掌村、军寮村、牛路水村和大坪村组成。镇政府驻于大坪村，镇域面积约92.8平方千米。[2][3]

镇内的平瑶岭遗址与摩崖石刻记录了明崇祯年间的排瑶暴动及随后的镇压。遗址于2019年被公布为「第九批广东省文物保护单位」。[5][6]

历史沿革[edit]

旧时连南瑶区有“八排”之称，今大坪一带占其中五排：火烧坪（即大坪）、军寮、大掌、马箭与里八洞。[8] 镇名取意于地势平展，据称因此而来。[2]

1952年设大坪乡，初属第二区。1958年起，境内一度分归大掌和军寮两个公社；大掌公社于1974年改名大坪公社。1983年改设大坪区，1986年又恢复为乡，1998年转为镇。[2]

农业农村厅于2022年10月认定本镇为「2022年广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业镇」（优质稻）。本镇在2024年3月获授「2023年广东省卫生乡镇」称号。[2]

2026年9月下旬，镇人大换届后召开首次会议，53名代表投票选出新一届镇人大主席、镇长与副镇长。[4]

地理环境[edit]

镇域南与涡水镇相连，西邻香坪镇，北面毗邻连山一侧的太保镇。国道323线在距镇区约3公里处经过。[1]

人口民族[edit]

居民以瑶族为主，是半农半林的瑶族聚居之地。[1]

第七次全国人口普查的结果为8000人，在县内各乡镇中居第六位。[2] 概况另记总人口11104人，未注年份，故与上数并列。[1]

经济[edit]

据概况所载，镇境耕地合计10763亩，内含水田4479亩和旱地6284亩，年份不详。农作以水稻为首，另有山禾、玉米、黄豆等。[1]

2001年的统计显示，水稻抛秧面积超过3000亩，其中高产田有2850亩。同年辣椒种植1200亩，产值65万元。此外还有百合约300亩，以及60多亩蚕桑。经济林以竹子为主，竹子基地达2300余亩。[1]

全镇有小水电站9座，合计装机2080多千瓦。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

平瑶岭遗址在军寮村境内，年代为明。遗址包括军寮排遗址、烧纸堂遗址，以及两处摩崖石刻。2019年4月19日，该遗址由广东省公布为「第九批广东省文物保护单位」。[5][6]

1642年（明崇祯十五年），排瑶起事，明朝总兵郑芝龙受命率漳潮兵3万前来镇压，里八洞、火烧坪、大掌、军寮等排寨先后被攻下，寨中房屋遭焚毁。[5]

随军监纪董梅鼎于悬崖上刻下「平瑶岭」三个楷书大字，字高宽各约0.6米，所在石壁高约8米、宽约6米。1986年，连南县政府将其公布为县级文物保护单位。[7]
