竹园村是东坑镇东边的行政村，离镇中心约3公里，下设5个自然村。[1] 在中央文明委2017年11月的决定里，它是第五届全国文明村镇之一。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

竹园在1958年公社化时成了大队；此后依次改为乡政府（1984年）、村民委员会（1986年）、管理区（1990年），1999年又恢复村民委员会之名，至今未变。[1]

人口与建设[edit]

博雅地名网的村概况称，全村510户、2721人；到2009年，年度总收入1889万元，人均4456元。村里的头衔有市、县“五个好”村党组织，以及省卫生村、省文明村。[1][2] 村里请番禺的设计院做过村庄规划，投资800多万元，改造农田500亩，扩种青梅500亩，办了60亩油茶育苗基地和一家榨油厂。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2026年1月，竹园村被评为广东省第二批“百千万工程”典型村。[1]
