茂广是广东省汕头市潮阳区谷饶镇的一个社区，在镇区西侧，由上埠洋、御路头、西美三个相邻的自然村合并而成，1949年后定名茂广。[1][2]名称取前程茂盛广大之意。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

历史上并无茂广这个乡，只有毗邻的上埠洋、御路头、西美三个自然村，后来称茂一、茂二、茂三；1949年三村合并，改称茂广村，划归谷饶辖区。[1][2]此后名称几经更替，先后称大队、乡、村委会、管理区，1999年起沿用现名。[1]

地理与人口[edit]

社区东、南与上堡接壤，西与东星、东明两村毗邻，北接横山村和仙波。[2]据博雅地名网所载，有1773户、10006人，面积1.69平方千米；土地中耕地582亩，山地434亩，另有635亩划作工业用地。[2]

社区居民以张、林、黄、陈姓为多，另有李、洪、刘、吕、苏、马、余、郑、郭等姓，大部分姓氏的祖先自福建和饶平一带迁来。[2]

社区以针织内衣为主要产业，规模企业有30家，另有中小企业和家庭作坊400多个；2009年，社区工农业总产值达1.85亿元，农民人均收入5840元，集体收入则为487万元。[2]社区近年出资1000多万元，建起茂广初级中学和茂广小学，可容纳4500名学生；另集资1200多万元建起外来工公寓，供1000多名外来人员居住。[2]
