据博雅地名网所载，明弘治年间祖先到此立村，起名横山村；此后名称几经更替，先后称大队、乡、村委会、管理区，1999年起沿用现名。[1]
人口与经济[edit]
该页所载，全村3911人、721户，耕地310亩，山地200亩；2009年工农业总产值为2433万元，人均收入5238元。[2]村里有16家较大的耳机电器配件企业和80多家作坊，产品有传统的听力教学机等80多个品种，注册有“硕美科”等10多个品牌商标，销往国内和俄罗斯、印度、东南亚、中东等地。[2]
横山村在2020年、2021年、2022年连续列入淘宝村名单；2026年1月获评「广东省第二批“百千万工程”典型村」。[1]
