历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网所载沿革，明永乐五年（1407年），祖先到此搭寮定居，起名东寮村，因分为两个聚落，该聚落独姓翁，称东寮翁村；此后名称几经更替，先后称大队、乡、村委会、管理区，1999年起沿用现名。[1]概况一页则说村约创建于明洪武十五年（1382年），由福建莆田县迁来，两处所记年代不同。[2]村名寓意东方光明。[1]
人口与经济[edit]
该页所载，全村735户、4538人，耕地802亩，山地1179亩，旅外侨胞（泰国及港澳台）近万人。[2]村内有针织内衣等工业约120家，规模较大的有10家；2009年全村经济收入2314万元，其中集体收入53万元。[2]
东明村在2020年、2021年列入淘宝村名单；2019年9月列入「广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位（2018年度）名单；2023年5月获「广东省卫生村」称号（2022年度）。[1]
