下寨社区在汕头市潮阳区和平镇，位于练江下游南岸，土地面积5.68平方公里，是侨乡村落，社区内有下宫天后古庙和妈祖文化广场。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

村志类材料称下寨创村于五代后梁开平年间（907—911年）；南宋景炎三年（1278年）文天祥路过，倡议改称和平里，村落分为上、中、下寨，此处在最下方，称下寨村。1958年起为下寨大队，1984年改作下寨乡，1986年建村委会，1999年又改居民委员会。[1]

经济与人口[edit]

社区简介称有3600户、21143人，耕地2515亩，历史上以种养业为主，改革开放后约六成人口从事二、三产业；村办的和平水产市场是粤东水产品集散地之一，另有东洋工业区（简介未注年份）。[1]2017年10月获第一批广东省卫生村称号。[1]

文化与古迹[edit]

下宫天后古庙相传建于南宋末年，明《隆庆潮阳县志》有记载；现存建筑为清乾隆年间所建，石门匾刻有乾隆甲戌年款，旧时庙前的古渡口是村民出洋的起点。[2]2016年，侨胞捐资把紧邻练江的20多亩柑橘地改建为妈祖文化广场，另建有妈祖公园和纪念馆；据2023年的报道，下寨旅外侨胞和港澳同胞约3000人，多在泰国、香港、马来西亚、新加坡、加拿大等地。[2]

高南平夫妇墓位于下寨居委高厝墓山东南，为元代墓葬，2014年10月10日公布为汕头市文物保护单位。[1]
