村名的含义是：大队处在东坑以东，联合了几条小村。博雅地名网称，东联之名自成村以来名称沿用到现在。[1]

村里协助镇上引入养生度假区项目，准备发展生态旅游，并引进外地菜场种植佛手瓜。距从化市区约80公里，离吕田镇约19公里。[1]
