村名来历是：大队驻地以东有两条小坑，故称东坑。东坑大队于1958年设立；1983年12月改设东坑乡；1987年1月更名为东坑村民委员会。[1]

村里协助镇上引入养生度假区项目，农业种家丹竹、沙糖桔、三华李和蔬菜。距从化市区约75公里，离吕田镇约15公里。[1]
