历史沿革[edit]
明景泰三年（1452年），伍姓先人从今台山迁到河西立村，后聂姓迁来、伍姓他迁；因是新开发的沙田，取名「新开滘」。明万历二年（1574年），黎姓先人从今顺德迁到河东立村。相传因村民中举，「新开滘」又雅称「新魁滘」，后称城南，因位于会城之南。[1]
城南乡设于1921年，民国至1951年属第一区；到1952年，梅江、城郊两村另立，新魁滘仍留在城南乡。[1]
经济[edit]
村内农业用地共1025亩，分为水稻田238亩、菜地537亩、鱼塘136亩和葵扇原料地114亩。因是城中村，村民收入以出租房屋为主。2019年村列入广东省「民主法治示范村」创建单位，2022年列入淘宝村名单，2026年3月被认定为广东省第三批「百千万工程」典型村镇。[1]
