共和村是怀集县怀城街道下辖的行政村，位于街道东南部，东邻甘洒镇，西南与坳仔镇相邻，距怀城街道中心13公里，属边远山区。[1]

地名由来[edit]

相传清代老鸦寨一带匪患严重，当地村民为了自卫，联合邻近村庄成立「共和团」，成立高级社时沿用「共和」之名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

名称与建制先后为共和高级社（1955年）、共和大队（1958年）、共和乡（1983年11月）、共和村委会（1987年）、共和管理区（1989年4月）、共和村民委员会（1998年）。[2]

经济[edit]

村情材料称辖18个村民小组、494户、2444人，耕地1080亩（水田913亩），山地23944.5亩。[1]村里利用绥江河畔的条件，发展厘竹深加工和竹笏加工；据2009年统计，全村社会总产值2658万元，人均收入5555元。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，共和村列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
