新建村是安铺镇的行政村，村委会设在新建一、二、三、四村之间，因而得名[1][2]。

1972年6月，村民从鹤地水库石角迁到廉江县五七军校所在地，1973年起称作五七生产大队，属河堤公社；其后1983年起改称五七乡，1989年起改称新建管理区，1999年起改称新建村委会[1]。

2026年3月，新建村被认定为「广东省第三批百千万工程典型村镇」[1]。
