夏插村是安铺镇的行政村，原叫沙头村，1790年改称夏插村；村名由来是海湾冲积地势低洼，夏秋雨季常被水淹，村庄像一座小岛^[1]^[2]。

1950年起归属廉江县第四区夏插行政村，1953年起为夏插乡，1958年起称作夏插大队，属胜利公社，1966年起归属河堤公社，1983年起为河堤镇夏插乡，1987年起改称夏插管理区；其后1997年河堤镇撤销，并归安铺镇，1999年起改称夏插村委会^[1]。
